Week three of the new United Football league and I was back at the Citrus Bowl photographing the visiting California Redwoods taking on the Florida Tuskers. A game which saw Florida continued to dominate the premier season of the UFL with a 34-7 win over California.
My assignment for the game was pretty simple – get everything. With an added twist this week, the video boards at field level showing different sponsors.
The Citrus Bowl can be a challenge to shoot in, just because of the lighting. The Florida game seemed darker than the opening game here in Orlando, but I just cranked up the iso on my Nikon D3 camera – to 5000 iso – and just went to work. This game instead of my Nikon 600mm f:4, I went with a new Nikon 500mm f:4 VR just to see the difference other than the 100 mm loss in length. Another D3 body had a Nikon 70-200 f:2.8 and I had a D300 with my Nikon 17-35 for anything that got real close.
Ok enough techie talk. Florida is looking more and more like the team to beat at the mid-way point of the season.
The league’s top passer, Brooks Bollinger completed 17-of-29 attempts for 224 yards – the longest a 51-yard toss to UFL-leading receiver Taye Biddle. Bollinger also threw for two touchdowns while Biddle had his second 100-yard receiving game.
The Tuskers defense forced five turnovers while their offense recorded almost twice as many first downs as the Redwoods.
As always, here is a selection of some of my favorites from the game:
