Living in the sunshine state has its perks, but shooting outside this time of year can be rough. So when one of my regular magazine clients called with a last minute cover shoot for its annual Best of issue, I gladly headed to the studio and the AC.
It was a pretty art directed shoot – one of the Orlando Magic dancers (Erin) in uniform, wearing or holding different items, which came from winner of the Best of list.
I have about 1,300 square feet of studio including a good sized cyc wall, which is where the shoot would take place. The art director wanted pretty simple, flat lighting with a blown out background since Erin was going to be cut out and placed.
I got to the studio a couple of hours early for our 10 am shoot to start setting up and do some last-minute things that needed done, since I just moved in recently.
Right at 10, the three make-up artist and hair stylist showed up. Followed by Erin , the art director, the magazine’s assistant editor, graphic artist, the two people from the jewelry store and eventually the editor of the magazine – 11 of us in all.
As Erin was getting worked on by the hair and makeup crew, the art director and I talked about the shoot, bounced around a few last-minute ideas, his concept, how we would pose Erin so she could be placed on to the graphic that was being done – just the normal pre-shoot stuff. Of course we went over her uniforms and picked out one that would work best.
The shoot was pretty straight forward and went off without many issues – my favorite kind. The client was happy, which is even more important and Erin liked her photos. All is good.
And this is how the shoot was used:
